Problem 459: Anatoly Stepochkin - Fairy (Circe, Maximummer) |
1.Ke1! (zz) 1…Qxf8(Ra1) 2.Ra2 Qa3 3.Rf2 Qf8 4.Bxf8(Qd8) Qd1# 1…f5 2.Bd4 Qxf8(Ra1) 3.Bf2 Qa3 4.Rxa3(Qd8) Qd1# Maximummer: Black must play the geometrically longest move or may choose from among longest moves of equal length, distances being measured from the center of each square. Diagonal and oblique distances are measured from the orthogonal coordinates by using Pythagora’s theorem (take the square root of the sum of the squares of the orthogonal distances). All other orthodox chess rules apply. Circe: Captured units (not Ks) reappear on their game-array squares, of the same colour (pieces), on the file of capture (pawns), or on the capture file’s promotion square (fairy pieces). If the rebirth square is occupied the capture is normal. |
