614. Francesco Simoni (Italy)
17.10.2015
614
#2 * vv                   (11+7)

* 1…Rxe2 2.Sxe2#, 1…Rxb5 2.Sxb5#

1.Sa4? (2.Bc3#) A,  1…Rxb5 2.Qc3# B, 1…Bxd3!
1.Se4? (2.Bc3#), 1…Bxe4 2.dxe4#,
1…Rxb5!
1.Sd5? (2.Qc3#)  1…Rxe2!

1.Sd1! (2.Qc3#) B, 1…Rxe2 2.Bc3# A

Changed mates, Tries, Pseudo-Le Grand.
1.Sa4? is refuted by Bxd3, since the black move removes the white guard upon c4; 1. Se4? prevents Bxd3 shutting off Bg6, but causes anticipatory interference to the Re8. Similarly, 1.Sd5? causes anticipatory interference to Rg5. The key 1.Sd1 does not create weakness (1...Bxd3 is not a defence since 2.Qc3 guards c4). (Author)
