Got it. "Slither one square and then bounce" is to be added to the definition.
Imagine the Cardinal is a point. It starts in the center of d7, passes the center of e8 and touches the edge of the board in the northeast corner of e8, which is simultaneously the northwest corner of f8, where it rebounds, passes the center of f8, etc.
