Locust-specific black battery creation: LO-R and LO-S; pin of the white piece R/B; Umnov; switchbacks of black R/S; passive sacrifice of white R/B; change of functions for two pairs: white R+B, black R+S. (Author)


Locust: a piece which moves only to capture. It lands on the same squares as a grasshopper, but the arrival square must be empty, because the locust captures its hurdle.

The initial black R-LO battery plays with followed creation of new black specific LO-R and LO-S batteries, where the initial front piece (bLO) becomes rear in the newly created specific fairy batteries - actually this is fairy Zabunov theme!

Diyan, honestly my intention was to compose the 3rd problem for your Zabunov 85MT, but I doubted it is Zabunov as I have a pin of the white piece before black battery's play. That's why I've decided to send it to you, but for the Original problems section instead of the tournament...

In my opinion this can be accepted as a Zabunov theme even that the initially thematic battery is closed by white pieces before to fire. In the fairy field many interesting possibilities and variants of Zabunov theme can be found (even in this problem you use specific second batteries which is nice), so I hope the Zabunov MT 2013 will be interesting. Till to now I received only 5 entries, but there is one more month left before the deadline, so you have time for even more entries ;)

The last time my tries to compose a "pure" Zabunov turn into some variations of Zabunov theme.. There's still 1,5 month till the due date of your tournament, and I believe you'll get many entries at the last days, but I'll have many competitors :). The theme is very interesting to compose!
