WCCC - Batumi 2013 (Part 1)

wccc2013(26.09.2013) Here is the first part with information and photos from the 56th World Congress of Chess Composition in Batumi (Georgia)!

Let me start with my first impression about the Batumi - a very nice and beautiful city! The hotels of the congress are also excellent - just look the photos! The only bad think is... the rain...

And some important decisions:

- From the next WCCT there will be also "Retro" section.

- The results and ranking of the competition will be made with up to 7 (the correct number will be decided later) of the 8 sections which are most successful to each country.

There were some lectures as usual. Marjan Kovacevic presented a wonderful lecture with some masterpieces by the late Milan Velimirovic:

And one interesting story about the threemover on the screen. But first let we see the problem:

mil1

Do you like it? Of course you do - it's a masterpiece! But the author do not liked it! He composed it in the period when he were almost out of the chess composition activity and even he have never published it.
But when his good friend Dr. Slobodan Mladenovic (the father of Miodrag Mladenovic) saw this threemover, he told to Milan that he have to publish it!
And the problem won the 1st prize... But there is more - Milan do not wanted to send it for the FIDE Album. So this problem finally were sent to the FIDE Album judges by Branislav Djurasevic and... get a maximum 12 points!

There was also lecture by Ofer Comay:

Thanks. Nice photos. Just curious.... why Milan did not like that great 3-mover? Any reason he gave?

Hello Eugene! Well, I was also wondering why and during the last day in Batumi I met Marjan and asked him. He told me that Milan actually didn't disliked the problem, but he was not so elated and has lost motivation and passion to compose it because in that period he was almost out of chess composition.
